Public services ‘need reform’

scotland’s public services are in need of radical reform, an independent commission said today.

The Christie Commission, set up by the Scottish Government to look at how public services are delivered, called for priority to be given to preventative spending.

It said it was estimated as much as 40 per cent of spending on public services could have been avoided by earlier intervention.

The report said further streamlining of public service structures was likely to be required. But it added: “Any specific proposal for reform needs to be driven by how best services can achieve positive outcomes.”
