£13m to be invested in green homes

Scottish Government ministers have committed £13.5 million for the project which will build 335 “affordable homes” using modern, environmentally friendly methods to make them energy efficient.

Housing Minister Margaret Burgess said families living in them should be able to save as much as £1,000 a year on fuel bills.

The money, from the Greener Homes Innovation Scheme, has been awarded to councils, housing associations and other organisations for 14 projects across Scotland.

Additional cash from other sources means the developments are expected to have a total value of £39 million.

Ms Burgess visited CCG Scotland in Glasgow, a business that is building homes under the scheme.

“This innovative scheme recognises the importance of using new, modern technologies to construct greener, cheaper, more energy efficient homes for people to live in,” she said.

“Families moving into these new homes will be able to save up to £1,000 per year on running costs.”
