It comes after George Osborne’s visit to Lockerbie with Dumfriesshire Tory MP and Scotland Office minister David Mundell.

The cash will help to pay for two students from Lockerbie to take-up year-long scholarships at Syracuse University in New York State. There were 35 Syracuse University students on the Pan Am 103 flight that exploded over Lockerbie in 1988.

The Lockerbie-Syracuse Scholarship Trust scholarship was created in memory of those who lost their lives, both in the Scottish town and from the university.

Mr Mundell said: “The Chancellor was impressed by the work of the trust.”

The Scottish Government last year said it would give £60,000 to the trust as part of its efforts to mark the 25th anniversary of the disaster.
