The protest, carried out and filmed by the Led By Donkeys group, saw a video projection of the rapidly rising death rate imposed on the grounds outside the South Ayrshire hotel.

The multimedia protest also projected the constantly increasing number of times that Mr Trump has visited one of his golf resorts during the pandemic.

Since being uploaded to Twitter shortly after 11.30am, the video has already been viewed tens of thousands of times.

It comes as the US is nearing the grim milestone of 200,000 Covid-19 deaths - more than a fifth of the global death toll - some nine months after the pandemic began.

Mr Trump has faced growing criticism for making multiple visits to his US golf resorts during the unprecedented public health crisis.

According to the website Trump Golf Count, he has visited his courses on at least 30 occasions since the middle of May, playing at his properties in New Jersey and Virginia.

The minute-long video opens with footage of Mr Trump addressing campaign rallies and criticising his predecessor, Barack Obama, for the amount of golf he played while serving in the White House.

In one video, Mr Trump remarks: “If you become president and you go to the White House, why would you want to leave the White House?

“I love golf, but if I were in the White House, I don’t think I’d ever see Turnberry again. I don’t think I’d ever see Doral [Trump’s Miami course] again, I don’t think I’d ever see many of the places that I own again. I’d just want to stay in the White House and work my ass off.”

The Led By Donkeys group has previously staged protests criticising the coronavirus response by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his chief adviser, Dominic Cummings.

It comes as union officials accused the Trump Organisation of using the pandemic as a “shameless” guise to cut terms and conditions for workers at Mr Trump’s Turnberry property.

Trump Turnberry has been approached for comment.
