Welcome to The Scotsman’s live blog.

First Minister John Swinney is due to set out his programme for government this afternoon, detailing his plans for the year ahead.

Sweeping reforms to public services are expected to be announced in a bid to plug a £5 billion black hole in the public finances by the end of the decade.

Some of the announcements already being trailed include proposals to potentially cut the number of NHS health boards. Currently there are 14 health boards in Scotland, but reports suggest this could be cut to as few as two.

Other proposals are likely to focus on eradicating child poverty and tackling the cost-of-living crisis.
