patients settle claim

Five hospital patients have settled claims totalling more than £750,000 after they suffered complications following hip and shoulder surgery by the same surgeon, a law firm has said.

The claims relate to surgery carried out by Manjit Bhamra, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Rotherham General Hospital between 2005 and 2007, solicitors Irwin Mitchell said. More patients may have been affected by the work of Mr Bhamra, who has since left the hospital.

Wayne Pickering, 59, of Doncaster, who underwent hip surgery in 2006, said: “I went into hospital expecting to come out the other side in better shape. Instead I found myself in agony and unable to work.”
