The First Minister said there are no plans for the measure, but insisted it cannot be ruled out in the battle to suppress Coronavirus.

The Scottish Tourism Alliance revealed today that some of its members have received inquiries from people south of the border concerned about quarantine when they enter Scotland and have asked for "reassurance of a full refund."

Ms Sturgeon raised the prospect of quarantine yesterday for UK visitors in response to emerging local outbreaks of the virus in England while Scotland moves towards near "elimination."

Marc Crothall, chief executive of the Scottish Tourism Alliance said today: "Given that over 70% of Scottish tourism comes from the UK market, any restrictions on domestic travel will have a significantly negative impact on the sector."

Ms Sturgeon insisted today that there are no plans at the moment for quarantine, but said keeping the virus under control was the "driving imperative."

And she added: "People in England are welcome in Scotland - that's always been the case and always will be the case.

"But I cannot ever guarantee, just as the UK Government cannot guarantee that people in Leicester will not be restricted from travelling to other parts of England, I cannot guarantee that we will have no need to impose any kind of restrictions to keep this virus under control.

"And anyone who thinks I should do this right now is coming at this from completely the wrong perspective."
