The Labour MSP said the First Minister should be “ashamed” of the SNP’s record on tackling fuel poverty during its seven-and-half years in power.

Ms Baillie said: “There are two million men and women and children freezing this winter. Real people. Nicola Sturgeon should be ashamed.”

However, Ms Sturgeon hit back and accused Ms Baillie of “politically motivated distortion” over the figures the Labour MSP cited.

Ms Sturgeon accepted that the fuel poverty rate was “appalling”, but said Labour had become the “anti-SNP party”.
