MSP's warning over quick decision on organ opt-outs

A FORMER GP turned Lothians MSP has warned against moving too quickly to an opt-out system for organ donations.

SNP backbencher Dr Ian McKee said: "When I die, I want my body put to as much use as possible for others.

"You can take what you like. What is left should be turned into ashes and used as a fertiliser, or used to give a better grip on slippery roads. I will be somewhere else and won't care a hoot."

But he confessed to "doubts" about moving too quickly to "presumed consent", and said that as there are too many misconceptions about it, any attempt to adopt a scheme too early could, "so poison the atmosphere that future progress would be inhibited".
