MSP blasts Edinburgh Council 'failures'

EDINBURGH Central Labour MSP Sarah Boyack has accused the city council of a catalogue of comprehensive failures.

Speaking at Holyrood during a debate on local government finance, she criticised the Lib Dem-SNP administration at the City Chambers over its "inadequate" school building programme, the ongoing bin dispute, the "botched" adult care services tender and "mismanagement" of the tram project.

She said: "The council coalition has been guilty of serious mismanagement, resulting in a catalogue of high-profile climbdowns. There is a lack of clear priorities, no strategic vision, poor treatment of the voluntary sector and a failure at delivering good relations with its workforce.

"These issues have been compounded by the financial straightjacket which the Scottish Government has placed on the council."
