McKee slams Westminster over consultants' bonuses

SCOTTISH Nationalist MSP and former Wester Hailes GP Ian McKee has attacked the UK Government's refusal to scrap big bonuses for NHS consultants as "incredible".

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon has already frozen the so-called "distinction awards" in Scotland and proposed to UK, Welsh and Northern Irish ministers the system should be ditched.

But UK Health Secretary Andy Burnham has rejected the call, saying the scheme "remains justified".

Dr McKee said: "I think it's incredible Andy Burnham has turned this down. How can we justify paying all that money to people who are already on six-figure salaries?"
