The party, which lost two seats, now has the biggest representation on the City of Edinburgh Council with 19 seats, while the Tories, who came second, gained seven to take 18.

It’s been a bad year for Scottish Labour, who slipped to third place after losing nine seats and dropping from 21 to just 12.

Elsewhere the Greens finished fourth with eight seats (gaining one) and the Lib Dems fifth with six (gaining three more).
