Leith: SNP’s ex-Deputy Provost in hunt for new job after defeat

DEPUTY Lord Provost Rob Munn said he would now be looking for a job after he failed to get re-elected in the Leith ward, where Labour’s Gordon Munro triumphed with 32 per cent of the vote.

A victim of the SNP’s decision to stand two candidates in the ward, Mr Munn, lost out to his fellow SNP member Adam McVey. He won 14.8 per cent of the vote, while newcomer McVey received 17.6 per cent.

Speaking after his defeat, Mr Munn said: “There’s always a risk when you stand two candidates and unfortunately it didn’t work out in Leith as we’d expected.

“We were pretty confident that the numbers would stack up, but you do have to put yourself to a public vote, and it didn’t happen.

“I don’t think the alphabetical order of the names was a problem as Adam and I were right next to each other, but I think the Greens have taken some of our vote.

‘But the SNP overall has increased its vote in some areas where we had gaps so that’s good news. We’ve not seen the same kind of voting as we did for Holyrood, but it’s a different sort of election.

“It’s disappointing to lose an election, but I’ll now be looking for a job.”
