Labour ruling on Anne Moffat due

LABOUR Party chiefs are expected to rule next week on the future of East Lothian MP Anne Moffat.

A meeting of the party's national executive committee on Wednesday could pave the way for her deselection ahead of the general election.

Members of her local party last month voted 25-5 in favour of a motion calling for the selection process to be reopened, but police had to be called after up to 25 people were denied access to the meeting at Prestonpans Labour Club.

Activists tried to have Ms Moffat deselected in 2007 but were defeated by union block votes. The following year a motion of no confidence passed by the local party was ruled unconstitutional by Labour HQ. Ms Moffat is expected to resist moves to oust her.
