Kinship care claim under fire

SCOTTISH councils have challenged the SNP’s claim that it has given “significant resources” to meet its commitment to kinship carers.

A spokesman for the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (Cosla) said: “We do not agree with the assessment of kinship care [those who look after the children of relatives that are unable to do so] in terms of resources.”

He added: “Since 2007, local authorities have encountered a number of major challenges that were never foreseen, eg the sharp rise in kinship and massive cuts to public-sector services.”
