The South of Scotland MSP was not in the Dumfries office at the time of the attack.

The single male attacker struck in the wee hours of Monday morning, with a picture of the smashed window at her Dumfries office uploaded to her Twitter account yesterday.

The act of vandalism at the office in Dumfries’s Loreburne Shopping Centre on the High Street was caught on CCTV, police confirmed.

Constable Dale McEwan of Police Scotland said: “We have CCTV footage of a male person, wearing jeans and a dark jacket with the hood up, smashing the window at around 3am on Monday.

“The person is then seen to run down towards Dock Head.”

The office is shared by Ms McAlpine alongside fellow SNP politicians Aileen McLeod MSP and Richard Arkless MP.

Despite the MSP’s claims that the attack was “deliberate”, Police Scotland have not confirmed that this is the case.

Anyone who may be able to provide information on the incident is advised to call Police Scotland on 101.
