Jim Murphy egg attacker given community service

SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE: The pro-independence supporter who threw eggs at Labour MP Jim Murphy has been given a sentence of 80 hours community service.

The shadow minister was in Kirkcaldy doing his ‘100 streets in 100 days’ tour in support of the Better Together campaign when he was attacked.

Stuart MacKenzie, an unemployed resident of Kirkcaldy, appeared in the town’s Sheriff Court on Thursday having admitted the assault.

A spokesman for Mr Murphy added: ““This sort of behaviour has no place in the referendum debate. Everybody in Scotland should be free to make their voice heard without fear of intimidation or abuse.”
