Home rule should be third option in indyref2

“Home rule” for Scotland should be a third option on the ballot in a future independence referendum, it has been claimed.

Professor Ben Thompson, former head of think tank Reform Scotland, makes the claim in an article for today’s Scotsman, as a campaign is launched backing the initiative.

Home Rule is where Scotland has full control over domestic matters, including the ability to raise the money it spends, but remains part of the UK.

Nicola Sturgeon hinted during last year’s election campaign that she could back such an option.

Professor Thompson says: “It should be the people of Scotland who choose our constitution and it would be a poorer choice if Home Rule was not on the ballot paper.”
