Home rule role for Sir Menzies

Former Liberal Democrat leader Sir Menzies Campbell is to chair a special body set up to develop a blueprint for home rule in Scotland.

The party announced it has chosen the veteran politician to lead its Home Rule Commission.

It comes after party members voted to establish a body to examine the distribution of powers between London, Edinburgh and local councils.

Sir Menzies said home rule, under which Scotland would gain more powers but remain part of the UK, was a better option than independence, which would bring “uncertainty”.
