Holyrood fix hits the roof

SCOTTISH Parliament bosses are spending thousands of pounds installing metal walkways on roofs in the Holyrood complex.

Workmen have been busy fitting the flat metal platforms to provide easier access for repair and maintenance of the 414m building.

The unique design and sharp angles of the parliament have been blamed for massive maintenance costs since it opened in 2004.

Holyrood bosses recently signed a new maintenance contract at a cost of 13m for the next eight years. A parliament spokesman put the cost of the walkways at between 8,000 and 10,000.
