Glasgow child carers campaign launched

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to improve support for the carers of children being looked after by grandparents or family friends.

Scottish politicians and public figures joined 100 Kinship Carers at Glasgow city chambers today to celebrate the launch of Scottish Kinship Care Alliance.

Labour MSPs Neil Bibby and Jackie Baillie, SNP MSP Nigel Don and former Scottish Socialist leader Tommy Sheridan were among those attending the event.

Anne Swart, chair of the alliance, said: “We are sick of seeing the children in our care suffer without the basic support from local authorities.

“Kinship children are routinely written off and discriminated against while foster placements have access to a wide range of support and services.

“Enough is enough. We have come together to put a stop to this institutionalised discrimination and fight for the rights of our children.”
