George Galloway denies being Brexit camp hindrance

Former Labour MP George Galloway has hit out at 'childish' questions about whether he is turning voters off the Brexit campaign.

The controversial Scottish politician was a surprise guest speaker at a rally for the cross-party Grassroots Out group in London on Friday night.

But his appearance prompted some members of the audience to walk out.

Mr Galloway was confronted with examples of the criticism as he was interviewed by presenter Jo Coburn on the BBC’s Daily Politics yesterday.

“If you had told me that I was coming in to discuss me I would have said there are much bigger issues that the British people are occupied by,” he said.

“I don’t want to defend me at all. You are not my judge. You are not fit to be my judge.”

Pressed repeatedly on whether he might harm the Brexit campaign, Mr Galloway said: “Please stop this. You misled me into coming today, and every question you have asked has been about me. It is so childish. It is so tabloid.”

Asked about the people who walked out at the rally he said: “More fool them – I hope they aren’t going to vote for the European Union because they don’t like me. That would be a very foolish and childish thing to do.”
