Gay marriage decision day

THE Scottish government is today set to announce its decision on proposals to make Scotland the first part of the UK to recognise same-sex marriage.

Ministers are expected to announce their decision following a crunch meeting of the SNP Cabinet in Edinburgh this afternoon.

The move comes after a bitter series of exchanges between the two sides of the argument over gay marriage during the last few days.

Scotland’s most senior catholic Cardinal Keith O’Brien demanded a referendum on same-sex marriage in a last-minute intervention on the eve of a final decision.
