Galloway backing devo-max

GEORGE Galloway has backed “devo-max” or full economic powers for the Scottish Parliament as he promised that he would be “campaigning hard” against independence in the run-up to the referendum.

Writing in Holyrood magazine, Mr Galloway, who was recently elected as the MP for Bradford West, called for a second question to be included in the 2014 referendum.

He said: “The Scottish Government needs power over the economy, pulling the levers for the worthy rather than the wealthy, which is why I favour a second question option on the ballot paper, however it’s phrased and whatever it’s called.”

He went on: “‘Devo-max’? ‘Independence lite’? However it’s described, it should be full economic powers short of secession.

“I’m a pretty well-known opponent of independence and I’ll certainly be campaigning hard against it.”
