FMQs: Follow along live

Key Events

  • Humza Yousaf will face questioning from Douglas Ross, Anas Sarwar and others at the weekly FMQs
  • Earlier this week an attempt to block the government’s holiday lets licensing scheme was defeated, despite an SNP rebellion
  • We are also expecting questions on the Paris Climate Agreement, offshore wind and repeat offenders

Audrey Nicoll is now asking about people’s attitudes on migration, saying a recent survey found most Scots are in favour of it.

Humza Yousaf says successive UK Governments have created a “hostile environment” for migrants and said this is “morally wrong” - this gets a lot of head nodding from the SNP.

He then says Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar needs to work with UK Labour to help change this.

Last question for this week comes from Murdo Fraser, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife - and I could jump with joy, this question is directly about my morning commute!

I regularly take the train from Perth to Edinburgh Waverley to come into parliament, and it takes an age (that’s the kindest thing I can say here without swearing).

Normally, there are four carriages and everyone gets a seat, but this morning there were only two and let me tell you, it was PACKED.

Murdo Fraser says when the train arrived in Inverkeithing this morning some passengers weren’t able to get on because there was literally no more room, and this made them late for their work this morning.

As someone who was sitting inside the train this morning (working very hard on our morning politics newsletter, which you should all sign up to https://www.scotsman.com/newsletter), there was no way anyone else could have fit in the carriage.

Humza Yousaf says the SNP has invested “significantly” in train services since they’ve been in office, but will write to Mr Fraser to discuss this further.

In the meantime, watch this video I made last week about how ridiculous my morning commute is:

That’s FMQs over for anothr week.
