She stressed that while people were being encouraged to exercise safely, close to their homes and keeping a two-metre distance from non-family members, they were not to ‘sunbathe or have picnics or barbecues’.

“All other restrictions remain the same,” she insisted.

The First Minister also confirmed she had asked the UK Government not to deploy its new, controversial "stay alert" message north of the border.

In her daily media briefing she thanked the Scottish public ‘from the bottom’ of her heart for sticking to the lockdown rules she has in place in Scotland, insisting she believed they were right for the country.

She said that by lifting a ‘small but important’ part of the lockdown rules, she was aware of how much a difference it could make to people, particularly those with children or living in a flat.

“But all other rules remain the same. We should stay at home,” she said.
