Coronavirus UK: Labour MP tests positive for coronavirus as cases rise

An MP has confirmed she has tested positive for the coronavirus this morning.

Labour’s Kate Osborne said she has contracted COVID-19 and will be self-isolating for the foreseeable future.

This morning she tweeted: “I have been diagnosed with Coronavirus (#covidー19uk) following a period of self isolation and subsequent testing.

“I will continue to self isolate until I have fought off the illness, but in the mean time I would encourage everyone to band together and support the most vulnerable in our communities.”

The MP for Jarrow warns members of her community to stay at home for seven days if they experience either a high temperature or a new, continuous cough.

She insisted that her office was still open if anyone needed help and urged constituents to contact her staff while she is self-isolating.

“The NHS are urging people to stay at home for 7 days if you have either a high temperature or a new, continuous cough.

She added: “If you are displaying any symptoms yourself, please self isolate and visit http://111.NHS.UK or call 111 for advice.

Her diagnosis comes a week after Health Minister Nadine Dorries revealed she had caught it - the first MP in Westminster to test positive.
