Coronavirus in Scotland: 37 new deaths as country records 1,128 cases in 24 hours

A total of 37 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours as Scotland sees a rise of 1,128 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday.

Of the new cases, 416 were confirmed in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 266 in Lanarkshire, 121 in Ayrshire and Arran and 117 in the Lothians.

The remaining were reported from the nine other health boards across the country. Only Shetland had no new cases.

To date, 1,152 people are being treated for Covid-19 in hospital, an increase of 35 from yesterday, and 86 people are in intensive care, an increase of 1 more from yesterday, having recently tested positive for the virus.

A total of 61, 531 in Scotland are confirmed to have had the virus since the start of the outbreak in March, according to government figures.

The country’s death toll currently stands at 2,791.

106 of these deaths were registered last week, 31 more than the week before.

The R number is still above one however it may have fallen slightly to 1.3. However the First Minister commented that the rate ‘appears to be slowing.’

The new 1,128 cases represents 7.1% of new tests that were carried out yesterday.
