Call for action on homeless

SHELTER today called on the Scottish Government to go further in its bid to tackle homelessness.

The housing campaign group said the Housing Bill before the Scottish Parliament is one of the last major opportunities to bolster ministers' commitment to house all homeless people by 2012.

Shelter backs the government's reform of the right to buy, but also wants measures to reduce evictions, increase housing options and end repeat homelessness.

Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, said: "Having a house is not always enough. Some people need support to ensure that they can manage it and keep it."
