Brexit court ruling: Gina Miller receives rape and death threats

The woman who led the campaign against triggering Brexit without Parliamentary approval has been subjected to online rape and death threats since her High Court victory.

Gina Miller said she would not let people “bring her down” as she revealed outside the High Court on Thursday opponents had previously nicknamed her “the black widow spider”.

But as Ms Miller celebrated the landmark Article 50 ruling, a torrent of online abuse - including racist comments, as well as rape and death threats - followed.

One troll wrote on Facebook group ‘Ukip - The peoples forum 2020’: “I hope she gets f***ing killed” while another said: “Kill her! 2 behind the ear. Throw her in the garbage. Dustbin, whatever.”

Online trolls also called for the 51-year-old investment fund manager and philanthropist, born in Guyana in South America, to be deported.

One Twitter user wrote: “Gina Miller is NOT even British this black immigrant b**** should be deported she is a f***ing traitor to the UK.”

Another tweeted “Get the f*** out of our country deport the b****.”

Ms Miller revealed she suffered abuse from those in favour of leaving the EU due to her involvement in the legal battle - before the three High Court judges ruled in her favour.

Speaking outside the High Court on Thursday, she added that a man at an industry party in the summer had told her she had the nickname the “black widow spider”.

Ms Miller said: “That nickname is wrong on so many levels. But I do not and will not let other people bring me down. I believe that level of abuse means I am doing something right for investors.”

Many defended Ms Miller, including Labour MP Diane Abbott who said Ms Miller had been “subject to rape and death threats”.

She added: “Gina Miller subjected to racist online abuse after Brexit legal challenge victory. Sadly predictable.”

A US journalist also called Gina Miller was targeted on social media and told to “F*** off to France” after trolls confused her with Ms Miller the campaigner.

The journalist wrote on Facebook: “Here’s the thing: it’s not me. Anyone who follows me knows I’m in no way smart enough to challenge the British government.”
