BERWICK-UPON-TWEED will become 'the new Calais' if Scotland becomes independent, Ukip's leader north of the Border has claimed.

David Coburn said England would need to erect “a barbed-wire frontier at Berwick-upon-Tweed” to stem the flow of immigrants trying to cross the border.

He claimed Syrian refugees settled on the Isle of Bute were “keen to leave” for jobs in England.

Mr Coburn also said the Scottish Government was “desperate to keep the refugees or the immigrants in Scotland” to “import voters” for their next independence drive.
