Anti-sectarian group’s cash cut

A 20 PER cent cut in funding for an anti-sectarianism project that is backed by Rangers and Celtic has been announced by Glasgow City Council.

The Old Firm Alliance’s grant will fall from £125,000 to £100,000 next year. It comes against a backdrop of cuts across the public sector.

The alliance uses free football workshops to reach out to primary school pupils.

A council spokesman said: “The project is an alliance, and greater co-operation should allow the partners to make efficiency savings.”

Rangers said the club was determined to “further develop our reach into Glasgow’s most deprived communities”.
