Mr Collie, a Labour councillor on the city council between 2003 and 2012, said: “I have known Mark for several years now and his first priority in every elected position he has held has always been to put the needs of his constituents first. He grew up in the Aberdeen Donside constituency and his decision to stand in this by-election shows just how much he cares about achieving the very best for people living in this city.

“He will be a strong local voice and I hope that voters will put their trust in him to follow in Brian Adam’s footsteps as constituency MSP for Aberdeen Donside.”

Mr McDonald welcomed the former councillor’s endorsement. He said: “I am touched that Norman Collie has given me this endorsement and I am determined to live up to his trust in me if elected on June 20th.

People in Aberdeen Donside rightly expect their MSP to be a strong local voice on their behalf and that is exactly what I will be if people in this constituency give me their backing.

“Whether it is standing up to school closures or protecting the council tax freeze that saves so much for people in Aberdeen, I will always put the needs of people in Aberdeen Donside first.”
