60% of scots want additional referendum question

Almost 60 per cent of people want a second question on more devolved powers to be included in the independence referendum, according to a new poll.

In an Ipsos Mori survey of 1,005 people, 59 per cent believed the referendum should include a question on independence and a separate one on “devo-max” – which would hand more powers to Holyrood but stop short of full independence.

Some 37 per cent thought the referendum should ask only one question, on independence, while 4 per cent were undecided.

The survey, which asked people which option came closest to their view, was conducted between 27 and 29 January.

A breakdown of the results showed the inclusion of a second question was supported by 64 per cent of women, 70 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds, and 66 per cent of SNP supporters.

Unionist parties have said they want only one question, with people giving a clear Yes or No to independence.
