200,000 Scots most at risk from COVID-19 will be written to about self-isolation

About 200,000 Scots most at risk from Coronavirus are to be contacted in the coming days and told to self-isolate at home for up to three months.

Nicola Sturgeon said they would be offered support with basics like shopping and supplies but called for "strict" adherence to the new rules.

It comes as the death toll in Scotland rose by three to reach 10 and a warning that each person contracting the disease could be infecting up to six others.

The 200,000 people who will be written to by the health authorities will be older people with underlying health conditions. There will include specific forms of cancer, severe respiratory conditions, rare diseases, those who have received organ transplants, those on immune-suppression therapies, as well as pregnant women who have congenital heart disease.

Ms Sturgeon said they will be offered a "range of support."

But she added: "For this group, the rules on isolation will be strict. Some may have to isolate within their own homes.

"So the support we will be making available through GPs and local partnerships will include not just help with their conditions, access to medicines and services, but also with food and supplies.

"The extraordinary measures this group will have to go through to protect themselves demonstrates why each and every one of us has to take this seriously.

"It is only be following the rules that we can save lives, protect Scotland and make sure our our NHS is not overwhelmed."
