100 Weeks: Edinburgh | Kirkintilloch | Balfron

I thought I would include a couple of portraits this week. The first was while I was shooting something else in Edinburgh and the fine-looking chap absolutely insisted I take his photo. The second image is of Pauline L, a black belt third dan, in Taekwondo photographed in an old 70s office block. I like this portrait a lot – the colours, the contrasts, the light all just seem to come together.

The third image this week was taken on the Forth & Clyde canal just to the west of Kirkintilloch. It just seemed quite unusual to have a little bit of suburbia where, instead of a family saloon car parked outside, there was instead a pretty nice looking old boat moored at the bottom of the garden.

And finally, on an absolutely scorching day I headed to the Stirlingshire village of Balfron for their Pom Pom festival. Teams of volunteers had spent a couple of days hanging thousands of pompoms from all the trees in the village and the result was absolutely stunning riot of colour. There are worse ways to spend an afternoon of photography.

Alan McCredie began the ‘one hundred weeks of scotland’ website in October last year, and it will conclude in Autumn 2014. McCredie’s goal is to chronicle two years of Scottish life in the run-up to the independence referendum.

McCredie says ‘one hundred weeks...’ is intended to show all sides of the country over the next two years. On the site, he says: “Whatever the result of the vote Scotland will be a different country afterward. These images will show a snapshot of the country in the run up to the referendum.

“The photos will be of all aspects of Scottish culture - politics, art, social issues, sport and anything else that catches the eye.”
