100 weeks: Andy Murray | Elie | Peebles

Unbelievable scenes in Scotland this week – day after day of hot weather coupled with a Scot winning at Wimbledon. We may not see the like again.

Images this week begin with a scene from the Ship Inn in Elie where despite the scorching weather outside a few hardy souls bravely watch Andy Murray’s victory over Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon. The first British singles winner since Virginia Wade in 1977 and the first Scottish singles winner since Harold Mahoney in 1896. Quite an achievement and one that I have to confess I could not bear to watch – far too stressful. I only managed to overcome my nerves when he was 40-0 up in the final game and that was hard enough.

Other images this week are of Scotland in the sun from Elie, Cowdenbeath, Peebles and Balado where the annual T in the Park music festival kicked off under a baking sun.

So yes, quite a week in this land of hot sun and sporting champions. I think we could all get used to it.

Alan McCredie began the ‘one hundred weeks of scotland’ website in October last year, and it will conclude in Autumn 2014. McCredie’s goal is to chronicle two years of Scottish life in the run-up to the independence referendum.

McCredie says ‘one hundred weeks...’ is intended to show all sides of the country over the next two years. On the site, he says: “Whatever the result of the vote Scotland will be a different country afterward. These images will show a snapshot of the country in the run up to the referendum.

“The photos will be of all aspects of Scottish culture - politics, art, social issues, sport and anything else that catches the eye.”
