Police welcome 4 years' jail for carjack bid

POLICE today welcomed a jail term for a would-be carjacker trying to make an escape after clubbing his ex-girlfriend's father with an iron bar.

Colin Wilson, 27, was caged for four years at Edinburgh High Court yesterday for the brutal attack and for later wrestling with a 60-year-old woman as he tried to make his getaway by stealing her car.

Wilson had used an iron bar to beat dad Raymond Peters on the head, body and legs in Giles Street.

Having returned home on June 29, Mr Peters, 52, was at his front door when he saw Wilson's reflection in a glass panel before he was attacked.

Shortly after, he asked Frances Adams for the time before a struggle broke out over her car keys.

A police spokesman said: "The sentence reflects the serious nature of his offending."
