Police use CS gas used on protesters

POLICE used CS gas on demonstrators in London yesterday during a protest against tax-avoidance. Three people were taken to hospital following the incident at a Boots store on Oxford Street, the London Ambulance Service said.

One woman was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage during at sit-in at the store, with claims from eyewitnesses that she had been detained for posting letters through a rubber seal in the doors.

The protest was one of a number throughout the UK organised by the Uncut group against companies they say avoid paying full taxes.

Five people were arrested at another protest against Boots in Lewes, East Sussex while around 30 protests took place throughout the UK, including in Edinburgh.
