Police to probe standard of care at nursing home

A PRIVATE nursing home was yesterday at the centre of a police investigation into potential criminal acts concerned with the care of elderly residents.

Two members of staff at the Eastleigh Nursing Home in the Aberdeen suburb of Peterculter have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation by Grampian Police.

And admissions to the home have also been put on hold as a result of the inquiry.

Grampian Police began their investigation after allegations were made by a member of the public about the standards of care at the home, which is operated by Southern Cross Healthcare, one of Britain's largest care home providers.

Andrew Williamson, the area manager for Southern Cross Healthcare, confirmed that two members of the staff had been suspended.

He said: "We have identified areas within the care quality at Eastleigh Care Centre that need to be addressed and, as a result, have ceased admissions while we investigate and implement suitable improvement measures."
