Police swoop on home in threats probe

ARMED police swooped on a family's home as part of a probe into mystery threats made against a man.

Officers descended on the house in Woodburn Drive in Dalkeith, Midlothian, and searched the property before detaining a male.

He was later released pending further inquiries, with police refusing to expand on the nature of the threats made against the 39-year-old.

The family involved – which included five children as young as two – were taken to Dalkeith police station from 8pm on Sunday until 5am on Monday while the search continued.

They denied any wrongdoing and claimed to the Evening News the police had been heavy handed and damaged their property.

A police spokesman insisted that it was "standard practice" under the circumstances for armed officers to be involved in helping to execute the search.

The spokesman added: "Following police inquiries in the Woodburn area of Dalkeith, a house was searched and a male detained in connection with this incident. The male was later released without charge pending further inquiry."

"Police are now keen to speak to anyone who has information that can assist their investigation into threats made."
