Police silent on death of newly-wed Aberdeen oil worker

Greig Robb, 28, was found dead by a maid at a Premier Inn in Prince of Wales Road in Norwich this week.

Norfolk Constabulary say they are not treating the death as suspicious even though a post mortem examination proved inconclusive.

The force arrested a 20-year-old woman in connection with the incident. She has been released on bail and so far has not been charged.

A spokeswoman said: "Officers from Norfolk Constabulary are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Norwich.

"A post-mortem examination proved inconclusive. However, the death is being treated as non-suspicious.

"A 20 year-old woman was arrested in connection with this incident but has now been released on police bail."

Asked about the connection between the death and the woman's arrest, the spokeswoman said: "We are not making any further comment."

Mr Robb's body was found shortly after 12pm on Monday. He was a field service engineer employed by the Rolls Wood Group.

He had travelled to Norwich from his home in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, and was due to fly out to an oil rig off the East Anglian coast.

He had married his wife Jill, 30, at Aswanley Estate, near Huntly, only a month ago.

Mrs Robb said she is devastated by the death and struggling to come to terms with it.

She said: "As far as we know, he was discovered by a maid with the television still on in his room.

"I just can't believe that he is gone. We were only married a month ago. He was everything to me."

Mrs Robb said her husband was a keen snowboarder who had a wide circle of friends.

The couple had recently travelled round the world, spending 18 months in Australia.

The family is still awaiting the results of further tests which could establish the cause of death.

Mr Robb's mother-in-law, Joan McIntosh, said: "Greig was everything you would have wanted for a son-in-law.

"Everyone liked him and he's going to be missed by so many people."

Mr Robb joined Rolls Wood Group in July 1998, after leaving Ellon Academy and completed a four-year apprenticeship.

A spokesman for the Rolls Wood Group said colleagues are deeply saddened by Mr Robb's death.

"We were delighted when Greig rejoined the company on his return to the UK in April 2009. Our thoughts are with his wife Jill, his family, friends and colleagues."

A hotel spokeswoman said the body was discovered at about12:25pm on Monday.

She added: "The matter is in the hands of police. The team member affected by the incident has been offered trauma support."

Mr Robb is survived by his parents Graham and Kate, and brothers Andrew and Douglas.

Rolls Wood Group was established in 1990 as a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Wood Group with its headquarters in Aberdeen.

The company employs more than 400 people worldwide and specialises in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of industrial gas turbine engines. As well as Aberdeen, the firm has bases in the US and Malaysia.
