Police seize illegal Ninja weapons in raid on shop

MORE than a dozen illegal weapons, including Ninja throwing stars, have been seized by Grampian Police in a raid on a shop in Aberdeen, it was revealed yesterday.

The weapons were removed from the unidentified shop after officers on patrol in the city centre spotted the knives and other weapons on display.

Sergeant Sandy McConnachie of Grampian Police said: "As a result of keen observation by our beat officers, we have removed these weapons for safe disposal."

He said the weapons seized included Ninja stars and a variety of knives, some similar to weapons used by characters in popular video games.

Sgt McConnachie said: "Although these items are marketed as ornamental and as video game collectables, they all have potential as weapons.

"These games are attractive to teenagers and we wouldn't want young people being in possession of these weapons. They could cause serious injury if they fell into the wrong hands and it is a criminal offence to sell them."

He added: "There is no culture of knife crime in Grampian, but we are not complacent."
