A MAJOR search was launched by police after reports that a man had jumped into a river from a bridge in West Dunbartonshire.

The man, thought to be in his 20s, reportedly jumped from Bonhill Bridge, Bridge Street, Alexandria, into the River Leven at 12:30am on Saturday.

Extensive searches were carried out by local officers, along with the police marine unit, the police helicopter, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and the Coastguard, but last night there was no trace of the man.
