Police Scotland launch anti-violence campaign

A campaign aimed at tackling violence is being held across Scotland today - the first since the launch of the country’s new single police force.

Officers will be out on the streets to engage with the public, deter crime and identify individuals responsible for various offences.

The Campaign Against Violence (CAV) day is the first major policing event undertaken by Police Scotland since it went live following the merging of the country’s eight former forces on April 1.

Police officers who currently perform back-office roles will also be used during the crackdown to help with frontline policing - either out on patrol or providing specialist support.

Checks

In total, 46 officers from across Scotland will provide additional resources to West Lothian policing teams to carry out a range of duties including warrant executions, checks on offenders and stop and searches.

Superintendent Andrew Allan said: “Campaign Against Violence days not only provide additional resources for frontline officers in their policing duties, but it strengthens the co-operation between policing teams from across the country.”

Deputy Chief Constable Rose Fitzpatrick added: “Today’s operation is by no means a one-off. This is the first of many CAV days which will take place throughout the country this year.

“These campaign days will use experienced officers to tackle violence, disorder and anti-social behaviour in our communities and help keep people safe.

“Local policing is without doubt the engine-room of Police Scotland and communities can be reassured that we will continue to tackle the issues they have told us are their priorities.”
