Police rescue children from house blaze

TWO police officers extinguished a fire and rescued three children from a home in Whitburn.

The police officers were at the scene of a small living room fire in Gareloch Way at around 2:40am today.

Fire crews were called but when they arrived they found that the blaze had already been extinguished.

The police officers had also rescued two young girls, and a two-year-old boy from the house. The young boy was taken to St John's Hospital by ambulance suffering from slight smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is presently unknown.

Fire crews were also in action at a suspicious fire in Bonnyrigg which left a woman trapped inside her home.

The crews were called to new-build flats on Burnbrae Walkat around 9:05pm yesterday.

The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance, but her condition is not thought to be life threatening.

In a separate incident, a 77-year-old man was rescued from his flat in McDonald Road yesterday after his electric blanket set fire to his mattress.
