POLICE are probing an “unexplained” death in a quiet city suburb.

A 56-year-old woman was found dead at a top-floor flat in Parkgrove Terrace, Clermiston, at around 9.30pm on Sunday.

It is understood police forced entry to the flat while forensics scoured the scene until the early hours of Monday morning.

Shocked neighbours said the woman - who is believed to live alone - had only moved into the flat in the last few months and was not well-known in the local area.

One said four police cars and a fire engine had descended on the scene on Sunday night, adding: “I saw the flashing lights and wondered what it was. It’s a shame. You don’t want anybody to die like that, by themselves.”

Yesterday a single police officer stood guard at the block where her body was found, while a locksmith arrived shortly after 11.30pm to replace the battered door.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating following the death of a 56-year-old woman at an address in Parkgrove Terrace.
