Police probe high-rise fire

POLICE are investigating what is thought to be a suspicious fire on the ground floor of a 14-storey tower block in Muirhouse.

The fire at Fidra Court in Pennywell Medway broke out in the lobby area at around 8am yesterday.

Six firefighters with breathing apparatus fought the flames and led three people to safety from flats above. They were then taken to hospital for treatment for mild smoke inhalation.

Police said they had detained a 15-year-old youth in connection with the incident.
