Police net record drugs haul worth £5m

DRUGS with an estimated street value of more than £5 million were recovered in a raid.

The drugs haul, initially thought to be worth 3.3m, is one of the biggest in Strathclyde Police's history.

As part of ongoing operations to tackle serious and organised crime, officers raided an industrial unit in Nuneaton Street in the east end of Glasgow on Thursday.

They recovered the drugs, believed to be heroin, cannabis and other controlled drugs worth 5.3m.

Superintendent John Cuddihy, at Strathclyde Police Major Crime Investigation Unit, said: "This is a phenomenal result for Strathclyde Police. It has prevented millions of pounds worth of drugs from hitting our streets and will no doubt save lives."

He added: "Let this be a clear message to those involved in serious and organised crime. We will continue to disrupt and dismantle your activities at every opportunity. There is nowhere to hide."

Three men aged 39, 47 and 55 were arrested in connection with the recovery.
