Police look to cast net for new recruits wider

AN event aimed at boosting the number of police constables from ethnic minorities and women is set to be held at force headquarters.

The event is designed to increase applications from sections of society who are “currently under-represented” in Lothian and Borders Police.

Police chiefs are also hoping to increase the number of aspiring constables and special constables from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.

The event is set to take place at Fettes HQ on August 25 between 9am and noon, and places must be booked by e-mailing positiveaction
[email protected]

Those taking part will receive details on the application process, exam requirements, fitness assessment and training.

A recent police survey revealed 53 officers on the force are gay or bisexual.

Out of the 3066 officers, 2283 are men and 783 are women.

The force has 44 officers and 12 staff members from ethnic minorities.
